Role Description

Aubay is seeking an experienced Data Business Analyst to join a Scrum Product team which is delivering software solutions and applications supporting trading and operations for the Power Desk within the Energy division in Europe. The role would be suited to someone who can work in a fast paced environment and able to solve complex business problems. You will be working as part of a DevOps team, focused on the delivery of software solutions within an Azure cloud platform utilising native Azure technologies and Big Data tools. As the IT Business Analyst you will be responsible for identifying and defining the business needs for Power Trading stakeholders, and helping to determine solutions to meet business needs or resolve business problems. This role involves providing support to the business to further professionalise their MI/Analytic reporting platform.


As a Subject Matter Expert, the Data Business Analyst adheres in understanding the requirement of a functional specification or user stories, ensure its completeness for next steps and is able to resolve defects during test cycles and hyper care including incident/ problem management. The Data Business Analyst will provide business functional expertise and guide the business process and development of the IT solution to support a key strategic product. This role blends business analysis and technical data engineering skills and requires a very solid technical background in data and software engineering.


Required Skills and Experience

  • Exceptional analytical abilities and clarity of thought
  • Attention to detail but also vision, initiative and creativity
  • Experience of ETL processes and ETL tools
  • Previous experience as a Data Analyst with solid Python skills
  • Experience with SQL-based technologies (e.g. MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with data blending technology (e.g. Databricks)
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure data stackg. Microsoft Azure Data Lake, Cosmos DB, MongoDB, Redis, Azure Table/Blob stores etc.


Role Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyse and model data and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to develop quantitative and qualitative business insights in an agile fashion, identifying opportunities for improved data analysis.
  • Develop processes and design reports to boost the business intelligence within the organization and effectively process large amounts of data into meaningful information.
  • Collect past and present data to create fit for purpose MI reports.
  • Has in-depth knowledge on the Analytical tools available within the organization and in the market.
  • Perform IT software development work on project, enhancement request or defect fix request that may include Technical Estimating, Technical Analysis, Impact Analysis, Technical Requirements Definition, Technical Solution Design, Technical Specification & Acceptance Criteria, and Technical Test Plan design and execution.
  • Support the transition of the implementation into the company’s Standard Service and Operation Mode.
  • Precisely capture business problems, value drivers, and functional/non-functional requirements, including health, safety, security, usability, data, and supportability considerations.
  • Translate business requirements into functionality and assess the risks, feasibility, opportunities, and business impacts of various solution options.
  • Assess and model processes, data flows, and technology to understand the bottlenecks and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Create clear documentation to communicate requirements and related information; keep updated to align with the solution over the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure traceability of requirements from business needs and requirements, through testing and scope changes, to final solution.
  • Interact with software suppliers, designers and developers to understand software limitations, deliver elements of system and database design, and ensure that business requirements and use cases are handled.
  • Create acceptance criteria and validate that solutions meet business needs through defining and coordinating testing.
  • Create and present compelling business cases to justify solution value and establish approval, funding and prioritization.
  • Execute Data Analysis activities on projects within agreed parameters of cost, time and quality.
  • Understand and stay abreast of relevant architectures and technologies related to a business area.
  • Support stakeholder management activities including facilitation of large design sessions.
